Terms of Use
Last updated: 6 June 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Halm app ("Halm", "we", "us"). By downloading or using Halm, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Halm is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard "Apple EULA"); where these Terms and the Apple EULA overlap, the Apple EULA applies to your use of the app obtained through the App Store.
What Halm is
Halm is a language-learning app. Lessons, stories, practice exercises, and the voices that read them are generated on your device using Apple's on-device intelligence and on-device speech models. Halm has no accounts and works primarily offline.
AI-generated content
Halm uses on-device artificial intelligence to generate learning content (stories, examples, exercises, and translations).
- It can be wrong. AI-generated text and translations may contain mistakes, awkward phrasing, or inaccuracies. Halm is a learning aid, not an authoritative reference.
- Use your judgment. Do not rely on Halm for professional, medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical information.
- Verify what matters. For anything important, confirm with a qualified human or an authoritative source.
You can report a wrong translation or rate a lesson from inside the app to help us improve quality.
Acceptable use
When using Halm, you agree not to:
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the app's models or source, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law or permitted by the license of an included open-source component (see Acknowledgements).
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the services Halm uses to fetch voices or content.
Your content and privacy
Halm is built to keep your data on your device. What you learn, save, and type stays private to you, syncing only through your own iCloud account, which we cannot read. The limited, anonymous information that can be sent — and only when you choose to send it — is described in our Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property
The Halm app, its name, design, and original content are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party and open-source components included in Halm remain the property of their respective owners and are used under their own licenses — see Acknowledgements.
No warranty
Halm is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of Halm.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and publish the change in an app update. Continued use of Halm after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the developer's place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
